London street honours Mr Benn

The London street that inspired the 70’s children TV series Mr Benn has honoured its most famous inhabitant by laying a commemorative pavement stone.

Residents of Festing Road (home to Mr Benn creator David McKee and renamed Festive Road for the series), Putney, held a tea party and dressed up in the costumes the popular character wore on his adventures.

I loved this series as a child. Mr Benn would walk down the street to the costume shop. He would then change out of his suit and bowler hat and into a costume before heading out through a curtain into another world full of adventure.

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Watch the first episode!

Part 2

Well, what do you think? Crazy!
